Facebook Testing “Watch Videos Together” Feature On Messenger

Social media platform, Facebook is currently testing a new feature that will let you and your friends watch a synchronized video over group chat on your respective devices. According to reports, the new feature which is being added to Facebook Messenger, is called ‘Watch Videos together’. A spokesperson who confirmed the report says the feature is currently being tested in house, meaning the company is still working on perfecting it.

The report says the aim of the new feature, is to make users spend more time on Facebook Messenger while creating shared experiences that are more meaningful and positive. Watch Videos together was first spotted in Messenger’s codebase which describes Messenger allowing you to “tap to watch together now” and “chat about the same videos at the same time and Everyone in this chat can control the video and see who’s watching.”

How users will be able to make use of the new feature is still not clear. It may be that Facebook may decide to integrate third party video partners like YouTube or VidMate to the platform. While we await how the feature will work, it is still unknown when the feature would roll out to the public.
