Mara X and Mara Z Specifications, Price And Reviews

The Mara X and Mara Z were introduced by Rwanda’s Mara Group and both smartphones cost around $190 and $130 respectively. It is referred to as the first fully made in Africa smartphone because others are either assembled of built outside and then shipped into Africa.

Rwanda’s Mara Group recently launched two smartphones called Mara X and Mara Z. According to the company, this will be the first fully made in Africa smartphone. Both phones which cost $190 and $130 respectively, comes powered by Google’s Android operating system. We have seen the likes AfriOne and other claiming the same thing, but the company via its CEO Ashish Thakkar said;

We are actually the first who are doing manufacturing. We are making the motherboards, we are making the sub-boards during the entire process,” he said. “There are over 1,000 pieces per phone

Details of the specifications showed the Mara X comes with a 5.5-inch HD display, with a screen resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels. The phone which runs on Android 8.1 Oreo GO Edition operating system, is powered by a MediaTek MT6739 processor. This is paired by a 1GB of RAM, and supported by an internal storage capacity of 16GB. The storage can further be expanded using a microSD card.

The phone is a 4G LTE device packing a battery capacity of 3500mAh. It features a 13 MP rear camera snapper with phase detection autofocus and LED flash. The front of the phone sports a 5MP front selfie shooter. It also have a rear mounted fingerprint scanner and supports Dolby Audio 5.1.

The Mara X cost $130 and its available in Black, Gold and Blue colours option.

The Mara Z on the other hand, sports a 5.7-inch HD display, with a screen resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels. This is an Android One device which is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8940 Snapdragon 435 processor clocked at 1.5GHz. It runs on an Octa-core processor, and suported by a PowerVR GE8100 graphic processor. The phone packs a 3GB worth of RAM, with an internal storage capacity of 32GB. This can further be expanded up to 256GB using a microSD card.

The phone not only featured a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, but also has a Face unlocking feature. The Mara Z supports 4G LTE with VoLTE and ViLTE, VoWi-Fi. Just like the Mara X, the Z variants also sports a 13MP rear camera, with LED flash light, while the front boast of a 13MP selfie shooter. The phone is powered by a 3075mAh battery and comes with a price tag of $190. The Mara Z is available in Black, Gold and Grey colour variants.
