Report from China says tech giant Hauwei has become the country’s top semiconductor maker. This is according to a research conducted by CINNO, who revealed the Huawei’s HiSilicon division has shipped over 22 million smartphone chipsets in the first quarter of 2020.
The research also showed that HiSilicon market share increased from 24.3% to 43.9% in the first quarter of 2019 amid COVID-10 pandemic.Qualcomm on the other hand, saw its market share declining from 48.1% to 32.8% in the first quarter, when compared to last year.
It should be noted that Huawei only makes chipset for itself (that is, its smartphone division) and doesn’t sales them in the market. Qualcomm on the other hand, sells its chipsets to smartphone makers like Apple, Samsung, LG, Motorola and a host of others. Huawei’s HiSilicon growth, is largely due to the successes of Huawei and Honor.
Occupying the third position on the list, is MediaTek which is closely followed by Apple. The report shows Apple turning out to be the most stable as its market share grew by only 0.1%, to 8.5%.
